Character Name: Antonio Fernandez Carriedo
Nicknames: Toni for the most part, but he's also been known to respond to Tonio, Toto, Ant, and Tomato Bastard.
Gender: Male
Country: Spain
Age: 18
Student or Teacher?: Student
Grade: Senior
Status: He’s not sure what these ‘clique’ things are... He’ll talk to anyone and everyone!
Sexual Preference: He wouldn't know, he's not really into the whole dating scene. He'd rather just hang out with friends!
Character information:
Likes: Siesta, tomatoes, cooking, Soccer, turtles, Lovino, Feliciano, Francis, Gilbert, walking around without shoes, laughing, smiling, the sun, guitar, dancing, church, cute things, carnations, and hanging out with friends. Heroes are pretty cool too.
Dislike: Rainy days, Arthur Kirkland, complicated theories, math, when people aren't smiling.
Skills: Can cook, dance, play the guitar, and the ability to piss Lovino off in under .5 seconds.
Ambitions: None that he thinks too often on... He just wants to be happy.
Habits/Mannerism: He tilts his head sometimes when he speaks. He also has little verbal tics, such as 'Hnnn?' and 'Ehh?' that he'll use when confused about something. He unintentionally flirts with everyone, and he also enjoys lavishing Lovino with affection.
Past of the character:
Antonio was born into a farming family from Catalonia, on the northeast coast of Spain. His father, whom Antonio had always admired as he was growing up, moved his wife out to the farming province before Antonio had been born. They did fairly well in their endeavors, managing to create a large and well-providing farm. Antonio grew up a carefree child, always playing in the fields and wandering off to the nearby city of Barcelona to people-watch.
Things got a little sour in his teens, when his cousins, a boy and a girl from Mexico, came to work on his farm. He wasn't too fond of them, and they never really did what he asked of them. Eventually, they went back home, and Antonio returned to being a happy, bubbly teenager.
Antonio's parents were dissatisfied with the boy's behavior, though. He had a tendency to do mediocre in school, choosing to instead focus on the more 'enjoyable' things in life. While Antonio's father had hoped that the child would eventually inherit and control the farm, Antonio seemed to have little interest in things that had to do with farming (though he constantly eat the crops grown when no one was looking). Because the farm was doing well enough so that the family had enough money to hire helpers, the Carriedos decided to send Antonio on exchange to a high school out of country for his secondary school, in hopes of salvaging what he had left of his education.
Antonio wasn't too thrilled about moving schools, especially right before high school, but he dealt with it anyway, trying to stay optimistic. And of course, things didn't turn out all bad. Antonio, with his natural good looks and smooth charm, was able to make friends without a hitch. Although his grades still weren't the best, he was lucky enough to get a few teachers that sparked his interest enough to motivate him to do better.
Nowadays, Antonio iss pretty well known as 'that one guy that's always smiling'. When not in classes, Antonio likes to hang out with anyone that will have him (except Arthur Kirkland, who bullied him quite a lot in Sophomore year).
( OOC; I just have a headcanon for Antonio disliking Arthur. Pay no mind to it C: )
Roleplay Sample:
Another year, another span of time in which to attempt to make friends. Antonio was a naturally talkative person, but when he was in a country filled with people that didn’t speak his language, his ‘natural talkativeness’ was replaced by awkward smiles and hesitant hand gestures.
It was all fine and dandy until people stopped realizing that they needed to talk slow for Antonio. He wasn’t dumb by any means (slow, maybe, and not the brightest crayon in the box, but not dumb), but becoming fluent in a language in under 2 years without any prior knowledge was a feat for anyone, and while Antonio was a quick learner, he still had trouble every now and then. Native speakers.... They just talked too fast.
People always complained about Spanish, but at least Spanish was smooth. English... It was like a jumble of grunts and high pitched noises smashed together, topped with calamari, and called comida. Antonio hated it when people talked too fast.
And unfortunately, all the people he’d encountered had been blind to his issues. Once they learned he spoke English, it was just as if he was like the rest of them. Antonio appreciated the sentiment, the way they attempted to include him, but it was never enough. He couldn’t understand, he couldn’t follow... He felt secluded.
That is one of the reasons why Antonio was so drawn to dancing. Dancing was the same in all languages. You couldn’t misinterpret dancing (well, you could, but you’d have to try really hard). He liked the people in his dance classes the most because people in the dance classes didn’t talk with him. They danced with him. It was freeing, the ability to express himself in a way others could understand. Now if only he could find someone able to communicate with him in a more verbal manner
...He’d have to scour the school for other Spanish speakers. Or at least someone insanely patient.
