Personality:
Yao has a habit of acting like an old man, avoiding strenuous activity and getting depressed over his age. He's a highly superstitious person who will panic and cling to his panda-plushy at the mention of ghost. He doesn't admit it, but he can be an easily frightened person when it comes to his superstitions and religion. There are many things in his everyday life that he simply will not do and other things he'd do even if it killed him just to appease to the old superstitions. For instance, even as dearly as he'd like to do it to Ivan or S.K, he'd never hit some one with a broom for fear of gaining bad luck.
Yao could go on and on about food until you fell asleep from boredom, holding that as first priority. Good food is the source to a happy Yao. Bad food is the source of your ears bleeding from his constant nagging. Arthur's food is out of the question, or he'd have you standing their for 5,000 years just to get one rant out. Not to mention that his rants and scolding can get a little loud and over-heard. He has the tendency to repeat things until you finally listen -and if you don't listen, he resorts to beating you with his panda plushy in hopes it will bring you into quivers of fear and obedience.
Yao loves cute things and has a cute tendency to add the suffix "aru" to the end of his sentences. Unless dealing with Arthur, who gets a special "ahen". Back to the cute things, however. He loves cartoon things, especially. For instance, things like Hello Kitty or Pandas. Hence the panda-plushy he always carries around. Which he'll rarely be seen without. That panda plushy is second to nothing. Even his precious food or his life takes a back seat to the panda's safety. With-out it, Yao would go into a deep, dark depression of self-wallow. So he tends to try and keep it away from jerks like Alfred or Ivan out of fear they'd want to play keep away.
Despite having a cheerful nature, he's easily irritable and can snap quite easily. His snapping however is more of a scolding than violent tendency. You'd wish he were beating you to death if you had to sit through one of his rants and actually -listen- to him. The beatings he does give, as stated before are merely being beat with his panda or having him whack at you, repeatedly -so not much damage but it can become slightly annoying if you don't have the patience or the brains to just listen and obey the man who thinks being an "elder" means the younger people should listen to him without complaint.
Yao does not resort to tears easily, in fact he'd avoid them completely if he could. Alas, the heart however is not unbreakable and just like any other human being he is capable of crying. That's when he needs his panda and good comfort food most. To ease whatever suffering could have caused him of all people to break into tears. Warm the stomach, warm the heart, and ease the soul. His sorrowing moments, depending on if it's one of his goofball age depressions or a serious heart-ache affects the longevity of his unhappy mood.
Past of the character:
For as long as he can remember, Yao has taken care of himself. One by one, siblings were brought home to him and he did his best to take care of them. He didn't believe the adults that were so called parents that were never around would do it. He did his very best despite his tender, young age to raise them up properly. Even going so far as to grow up, faster than any child should ever have to. Perfecting everything that was necessary to take care of growing children and putting himself through a lot of heart-ache to do so. His siblings have always been a precious treasure to him.
In their younger years, whether it was an accident or on purpose, Kiku was playing with a katana and left a large scar on Yao's back that would never fade away. A constant reminder to never turn your back, even on those you trust. He dealt with the pain as rationally as a young child could deal with such a thing. Doing his best to forgive the younger child and write it off as an accident, but always. Always in the back of his mind, he worried that if he let anyone close enough again they'd do the same thing. Only this time, he feared, it would be so horrible he could never come back from it.
He also had a close friendship with a younger male by the name of Ivan Braginski, who seemed to constantly be up to one thing or another. For the most part their goals were the same, but their methods collided and always made Yao wary of the other and his unusual techniques to get the job done. So he tends to try and keep the man at an emotional distance -usually failing majorly. Despite always scolding the younger male and trying to set him on a less violent path, Yao never could help but be drawn in by the other's unique personality. Still... The last thing he wanted was to foolishly lose himself to something so dangerous.
(This can be changed if any of the people in question desire it.)
Roleplay Sample:
Yao sighed as he walked down the darkening streets to the park. His mind on earlier things. Like what had happened earlier in the day, and where he'd just come from. He'd just come from a restaurant where he had to scold the waitress for not serving the food on time -which caused it to get cold and hard to digest. Bad food was the worst, bad service shouldn't be allowed. The woman practically cried and all he'd done was kindly scold her so she'd not make such mistakes in the future. She didn't seem to see it that way though and ran away like he was some bad guy. That was beyond rude of her.
And if that wasn't bad enough, earlier that day, he'd had to run from Ivan. That was hard! Russia had on this adorable panda hat and Yao wanted to glomp him, and cuddle and beg the Russian to take him home, but that was hardly what happened. He ran and he didn't look back, at least he managed to save his pride. Right, aru? It would have been horrible if that Russian had caught him, he'd never get free. That Russian had a grip like steel and Yao wasn't a fool. That steely grip could cause him to bid farewell to his last breathe of air on this wondrous world if it got a hold of him. The Asian was fairly certain he didn't want that.
Yao sat at the bench and smiled as children ran around and played. Aiyaaah, how good youth is, aru. Yao wished his siblings were still this little and cute. They fought him ALOT less when they were younger. Now it seemed they practically wanted nothing to do with him! Haaa, Yao was too old for this stuff. His stomach growled as he watched mothers and fathers take their children by the hands to take them home before it got too dark. Home for a nice, warm dinner. Maybe he should go home and make dinner... Maybe his siblings would actually it too. That would be nice if he could get praised by them for making delicious food.
Yao jumped as he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He held his arms up defensively. He knew martial arts! And he'd use it if he had to! If it was Ivan.... He'd run like no tomorrow.... If it was a ghost.... Same thing applies, haul ass! It turned out to be just Shinatty-chan. Which relieved Yao greatly, the small Asian sat and talked with the old man who wore the hello kitty uniform for a few hours before returning home to do as he'd originally planned. Unfortunately the lights were off, either everyone was out or asleep.
Yao side and went to the kitchen, making himself some food. Sweet and sour beef noodles with rice and egg-drop soup. Nothing fancy, but it was good for a quick fix. He sat in his chair and prayed to his God. Thanking the god for the yummy food he was about to partake in the consumption of. Satisfied with his prayer, he dug in. First, he ate the egg-drop soup, then he went back and forth between picking at the Sweet and Sour chicken noodles and the rice. Finished he dumped his plate, bowl, and utensils in the sink, washing and drying them and left them in the drainer.
(This is more-so on a good-day when writer's block isn't plaguing me. ^^;; )
